The canoe descent

From Villebernier to Gennes

Top start of our descent of the Loire at the nautical base of Villebernier. Our things well protected in a waterproof box, our life jackets on our backs, we listen carefully to the instructions and advice of the guide. In a few hours, he will pick us up 20 km below, at the Gennes nautical base.

No need to be sporty, all we have to do is enjoy... Very quickly, the Château de Saumur comes into view. The city is offered to us like a magnificent postcard, a poster that flies to the rhythm of the current.

Under the arched piers of the very beautiful Cessart bridge, easy to cross, impossible to stop us... Echo, echo, echo... But the current is already taking us further.

Break on a desert island…

After Saumur, the Loire becomes a wild landscape. The river is wide! Our eyes widen: the blond sand of the banks meets the wooded banks, of a tender green. The islands attract us for a break and we land on a beach. Speechless, we listen to the song of the birds hiding in the heart of the island's vegetation.

The secret heritage of the banks of the Loire

As we get back into our canoe, our zenitude competes with our astonishment. From the Loire, you can see mansions and other beautiful residences hidden at the top or at the foot of the hillside. From the road, this heritage is only half revealed… From time to time, the terrace of a restaurant or a house makes us a little jealous: how lucky to have this view!

The Gennes bridge signals (too soon) the end of the adventure

We go around the island of Trier to see the eponymous tower emerge on our left. Further down, the church of Saint-Clément-des-Levées stands on our right. A few strokes of the paddle and we can already see the famous bridge of Gennes. Its elegance and metallic finesse extricate us from our contemplation. "Oh no, we've already arrived!
