In a sky of light and wool - Pascal Convert

Pascal Convert deploys his work to offer a reading of the abbey in all the depth of its spiritual dimension. From the abbey church to the chapter room, he builds a route along which his creations resonate with the monument.

Pascal Convert was born in 1957 in Mont-de-Marsan. He lives and works in Biarritz. A polymorphous artist, in turn visual artist, writer and director, Pascal Convert is considered today as one of the most important artists of his generation. Describing his work as the archeology of memory, he uses destroyed architectures, vanished childhoods, bodies and forgotten stories as the materials for his work.

Through photography, or through materials such as wax or even more often glass, Pascal Convert urges us to look into the light of the passage of time, and the persistent effects of the past. Spirituality, memory and meaning are at the heart of his work, both mysterious and profound. His work essentially focuses on the imprint and the refusal of forgetting. She maintains special links with everything that has disappeared, objects, as well as beings. For Fontevraud, he created several new pieces in memory of the places and generations who lived there. Alongside his exhibition, Pascal Convert also invited the young Portuguese artist Carlos Cavaleiro to create a piece for the chapter room, in homage to the nuns who met there for seven centuries. This invitation places the idea of generational transmission at the heart of the creative process.
