“A crazy story of Time”

The Royal Abbey of Fontevraud presents the exhibition “A Crazy History of Time”. For 2 years, this new exhibition questions the notion of time deeply linked to the very history of Fontevraud.

A simple and complex subject, time is both an individual experience that each person knows, but it is also linked to the physics of the infinitely large and the infinitely small and to the multiple cultures of Men.

Through this exhibition, the visitor is taken on an impossible journey, that each of us has fantasized about undertaking one day, that of traveling through the past or the future. Science, philosophy and imagination come together here to write the history of time.

An object of study for scientists, time is also a subject of inspiration for creators. Time travel has even become a favorite subject in popular culture. Often originating in scientific concepts, works of fiction quickly free themselves from them to question ethics, morality or to ask existential questions. Doesn't this impossible journey hide a deeper desire, like the quest for immortality? Doesn't time travel reveal Man's desire to control the uncontrollable?

Ambivalence, paradox, derision, dissonant encounters of objects, punctuate this exhibition which invites today's visitors to smile, be surprised, question and meditate.
