6 Anjou Wine and Village routes crisscross Anjou. Among them, the tourist route which crosses Saumur Val de Loire "Vineyards and Troglodytes in Saumurois" is a program in itself!
Over the 90 km of this wine tourism circuit, all the facets of the terroir are revealed through the wine villages, estates and cellars. Many exceptional sites line the route. We offer you here a short selection of walks through the vineyard, embellished with monuments and sites that will inevitably attract your attention...
From Saumur to Saint-Cyr-en-Bourg, we enter the small appellation area of Saumur Champigny: a rich and balanced wine, with fresh notes of red fruits. After a stroll through the different estates, the tasting is a must!
The Robert and Marcel cooperative cellar, in Saint-Cyr-en-Bourg, offers a vast selection of Saumurois wines (and from our neighbors in Indre-et-Loire).
Heritage idea: Le Brézé castle and its "castle under the castle". Impressive !
To the south, the furnished castle of Montreuil-Bellay and its fortified town center are well worth a break! The road then takes us to the Saumur Puy-Notre-Dame area, the youngest of the area's appellations. Its full-bodied and harmonious red wine leaves tasty aromas of black fruits in the mouth.
Heritage idea : The collegiate church of Puy-Notre-Dame, a huge Gothic and majestic building which has dominated the village since the 13th century.
Heading south west, the kingdom of Layon opens up to you.
Rich in many grape varieties and appellations, the Layon valley is nevertheless famous for its sweet wine with a golden hue. Here the king is the hillside of Layon that we savor for the beautiful occasions. (This walk is one, right?)
Heritage idea : Troglodyte atmosphere in the village of Louresse-Rochemeunier or at the Bioparc of Doué-en-Anjou!
It's time to reach the banks of the Loire along the forest of Milly to Gennes and its emblematic suspension bridge. Then going up the river to Saumur, the houses of Fines Bulles follow one another in Saint-Hilaire-Saint-Florent. Let Crémant de Loire and Saumur Brut transmit their effervescence to you!
Heritage idea : The Pierre et Lumière troglodyte park and its magical route of sculptures reproducing the emblematic monuments of the Loire Valley.
After the town of Saumur, the vineyard continues… Perched above the hillside, in Parnay and Turquant in particular, the vines flourish on tufa mounds.
It is the ideal land for the Chenin grape variety, the letters of nobility of our white wine. Soft for the Coteau de Saumur or more mineral and deliciously floral for the Saumur Blanc, it's yet another taste adventure...
Heritage idea : The Musée des Pommes Tapées in Turquant, to discover the ancestral art of the apple flattened with a hammer!
