Clos Cristal

Created in 1890 in the heart of Saumur-Champigny by Antoine Cristal, this eponymous estate has today become legendary and emblematic. The estate's great wines are a vibrant, intense and refined expression.

Antoine Cristal marked his time with a new and still unique idea: a cultivation of vines within the walls. A balance between shadow and light is thus achieved, resulting in aromatic complexity and unrivaled intensity.

More than 3 km of walls have been erected within the estate in which, for 130 years, the vines have grown and flourished. The base of the vine planted to the north, along the wall, passes through a hole to allow the vine to pass through. The branches, foliage and clusters therefore grow along the wall, facing south. With their feet cool and their heads in the sun, the vines can gain up to a month in maturity!

This technique reflects a non-conformist vision of the Clos Cristal winegrowers which has endured from its creator to his last heirs.
