Otherwise known as Chenin noir, Pineau d'Aunis is a red grape variety, mainly grown in Anjou and Touraine, and originally from Saumur. It is the Prieuré d'Aunis located in Dampierre-sur-Loire, near Saumur, which cultivated it, and which gave it its surname.
