Summer exhibition at the Fontevraud Museum of Modern Art: Bernard Buffet, medieval and pop

The Fontevraud Museum of Modern Art presents its new summer exhibition with the artist Bernard Buffet.

For its third summer exhibition, the Fontevraud Museum of Modern Art continues its programming centered on key figures in the history of art, echoing its permanent collection.

Thus, in homage to one of its essential artists, the museum is presenting, from June 8, an exhibition dedicated to Bernard Buffet, considered after the war as "the greatest French painter", whose unique style and trajectory fascinate and question the collective memory.

This exhibition of more than seventy works reveals a painter who is both “medieval and pop.” who uses both scholarly sources and popular art codes (comic strips, advertising, etc.) which he reinterprets in a very personal way. It also sheds light on the figure of the artist, both ultra-popular and solitary, sometimes going against his time.

Curator: Dominique Gagneux, assisted by Gatien Du Bois and Aude Le Mercier.
