Gargantua, the myth

The figure of the giant is a reference in the collective imagination, especially in France where the work of Rabelais is part of the legend.

The Rabelais museum offers a journey both outside and inside, with the presentation of large objects created especially for the occasion (flamberge-sword, tomb, codpiece, etc.); archaeological pieces from the 16th century (weapons, armor, tableware, etc.) and rare works (gigantology, ancient chronicles); engravings, illustrated books as well as new acquisitions. Gardens, homes, dovecotes, and cellars offer the ideal setting for a journey from the first mythology of the giants to Rabelais' Gargantua. From the great tomb of the origins, to the food and the table, through the picrocholine battles, to reach the abbey of Thélème!

Exhibition produced in collaboration with the Mercurius association creations of disproportionate objects, co-curated with the Rabelais Museum.
Partners: Association of Friends of Rabelais and La Devinière, financial support DRAC Center Val de Loire.
