On the occasion of the Olympic year Paris 2024, an exhibition on the theme of French riding at the Olympic Games is presented to you.
Two major horse towns, Fontainebleau and Saumur, successively host this cultural event, exceptionally presenting collections dedicated to the military horse. Patiently brought together by the Military Riding School, scenography by the Saumur museum team, this exhibition is enriched with loans granted by great French riders or their families.
A COMPLETE SCENOGRAPHIC COURSE:
After a presentation of the birth of equestrian events at the Olympic Games, the different disciplines, dressage, show jumping and complete equestrian competition (CCE), are successively addressed, highlighting the French prize list during the different olympiads. Handisport, the pentathlon riding event and polo, a five-time Olympic discipline, are also discussed.
Particular attention is paid to all the men and women who contribute to the Olympic legend: the family dynasties of French riders, the coaches, the veterinarians, the French in the organization (IOC, judges). This exhibition highlights French participation in the history of modern Olympic equestrianism.
TWO PLACES FOR AN EXHIBITION:
– Fontainebleau, equestrian city: the exhibition took place at the Charité royale in the town of Fontainebleau from May 31 to August 10.
– The Cavalry Museum of Saumur: from the Seine to the Loire, the exhibition takes place within the military schools of Saumur at the Cavalry Museum from September 2 to November 11, 2024.
A PROJECT FOR A NEW ARMY MUSEUM:
These works, soon to be exhibited to the public, are a preview of part of the future military horse museum planned within the magnificent setting of the Sénarmont riding school in Fontainebleau. More than 5000 objects currently kept in several exhibition rooms of the Military Riding School are awaiting the creation of the first museum retracing the history of the military horse and through it, modern horse riding.
