Housed in a Château de la Loire, it boasts outstanding architecture, a collection and exhibition spaces that place it among the ranks of international institutions dedicated to contemporary art. The programming of the Château de Montsoreau-Museum of Contemporary Art reflects the creative richness of today's artists. It is organized around temporary exhibitions, events, meetings, concerts and performances.
Energy savings, sustainable mobility, resource savings and waste reduction, preservation of biodiversity, the Château de Montsoreau – Museum of Contemporary Art works daily for sustainable development.
Virtuous gardens
In the heart of the Loire-Anjou-Touraine Regional Nature Park and in a Classified Wooded Area, the gardens of the Château de Montsoreau – Museum of Contemporary Art are designed as a sanctuary promoting biodiversity. In 2017, as a tribute to Miriam Rothschild, the gardens were converted into wild gardens. Abandoning technique, chemistry and interventionism, they favor the sociability of native plants and preserve the surrounding fauna to propose a new balance between fauna and flora. The maintenance of the gardens and green spaces, covering an area of 1 hectare, is entirely carried out manually, without the use of chemical products.
Promote ecotourism
Built in the bed of the Loire, the Château de Montsoreau has built its history and its prosperity while respecting the surrounding landscape.
In a desire to encourage ecotourism and non-polluting modes of travel, in 2017, the Château de Montsoreau – Museum of Contemporary Art developed and reopened the historic port of the castle, abandoned for 500 years. River shuttles between Saumur and Montsoreau, in partnership with Croisières Saumur Loire, are now offered to visitors.
An eco-communication
To reduce its environmental footprint, the Château de Montsoreau – Museum of Contemporary Art has chosen to limit its paper communication in favor of a digital strategy:
- limit the printing of e-mails.
- prints on 100% recycled paper.
-recovery and reuse of undamaged promotional leaflets.
-recycled paper bags for the museum library.
A lasting commitment
A major restoration project preceded the opening of the Château de Montsoreau – Museum of Contemporary Art. Carried out under the direction of Dominique Latron, Chief Architect of French Buildings, the interventions took into account environmental data in its various aspects:
- replacement of the existing lighting with an LED lighting system, using less energy and respecting the environment.
- use of lime plaster to optimize the hygrometry of the building.
- insulation of windows and attic.
-removal of the heating/cooling system in order to restore the thermal self-regulation of the building.
In the exercise of its museographic activity, the Château de Montsoreau – Museum of Contemporary Art works to recycle and reuse waste related to temporary exhibitions.
Awareness campaigns for visitors are also conducted to encourage them to save water.
